What Does it Look Like to Work With H&F?
It all starts with a conversation
It can be a call, or an email. This is where we begin to learn what you’re looking for, what need you’re trying to fill and how we can best work together. During this conversation, we’ll set up a time for an in-person appointment (if you’re local) and that can be at our shop or at your home depending on what works best for you. We prefer coming to your home so we can learn more about your space, style, and taste. It really helps us understand what you’re looking for (and get to know you a little better). We have the opportunity to see your current decor, other pieces of furniture in the area and get a better idea of how to create your new piece to fit the space and feel of your home.
During this conversation, we’ll gather what you had in mind for the new piece. This can be from your existing furniture, a Houzz or Pinterest board, or an idea on a napkin. This will help us better understand your goals to make sure we understand what you’re looking for. We can even do a rough sketch while we’re all there to make sure we’re all in tune with the project.
We put together a quote
Now that we have a better understanding of what you’re looking for, we can get started on pricing. This can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks depending on the complexity of your piece and the number of options we’re presenting. You’ll also receive a digital drawing of the piece so you can see in more detail what the finished product will look like and imagine the different materials that are possible.
We will include different options for materials that may change the price of the quote depending on the look you’re trying to achieve and the raw material cost. Our quote will go over these options, timelines for building and delivery to make sure every aspect is covered. We’ll provide several delivery options of the piece to ensure it arrives in perfect condition all the way to your door (and inside your home).
We finalize the details
After the quote is put together and you’ve had the chance to review it, it’s a great time to discuss the details and any changes you would like to make to the direction of the project from size alterations, stains, style differentiations and more. We would love to have you stop by the shop so you can see the materials in person, or we can send examples to your home if you’re unable to stop by. During this time we’ll discuss which options in the quote best fit your style and budget and make decisions on how to move forward.
Once we’ve selected the options, a deposit (typically 65% of the total) is due for us to begin the next phase of the project: the build!
We get to work!
Let’s kickoff the building process! To get this started, we create intricate shop drawings with details and dimensions for your review and approval.
Then we create even more detailed drawings for internal guidelines on building and execution to make sure the production is precise. We’ll purchase the materials, and work with any additional vendors to make sure we have our timeline in place.
If we’re working with paint or stain, we’ll make sure you have samples and make your selection. Each step of the way, you’re consulted to make sure everything is in-line with your concept, design and vision. We can even send you photos as we build so you can watch your design come to life!
The piece is completed
Congratulations! Your beautiful new piece is completed! We’ll take some professional photographs in our studio and package it up for delivery. Smaller pieces can be picked up at the shop while bigger pieces are typically shipped by a preferred and trusted mover (this is established in the quote).
We love to see our finished pieces in their intended environment, your home! We love it when our clients send us notes, photos or even allow us to take photos to showcase the piece for our portfolio and show how the piece meshes with the surrounding elements.
